My husband and I have date nights every week and one of our go-tos is making pasta at home! I think we have both agreed that of the sauces we have made, marinara is our favorite! Something about using just fresh tomatoes for the sauce makes the flavor depth so much richer.
EVERYTHING YOU’LL NEED TO MAKE THis simple marinara
- Cherry Tomatoes: these bring the dish a certain freshness you just can’t get out of a can!
- Olive Oil: gives richness to the dish and a bonus!! It has anti-inflammatory properties (they even conducted a study that showed that 2 Tbsp of olive oil can fight inflammation better than a dose ibuprofen)!
- Garlic: oh garlic in anything is absolutely delicious! Even the smell alone lets you know what you’re about to eat is gonna be good! We use a lot of garlic because 1) we really like garlic and 2) we have yet to hear someone say a dish had too much garlic!
- Red Pepper Flakes: I like it a lil spicy and just like putting red pepper flakes on pizza, adding it to this sauce just makes sense!
- Worcestershire Sauce: I am convinced that this is the hardest sauce name to pronounce! But adding this to the sauce brings this unique flavor that is savory and sweet and has a tanginess from the fermentation.
Simple Marinara
What makes this sauce unique is that I add in some Worcestershire sauce and it adds SO much flavor that you won't want to miss that step!
Ingredients
- 4 Tbsp olive oil
- 3 pints cherry tomatoes
- salt
- pepper
- 6 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
- 3 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- pasta water
Toppings (optional)
- basil, sliced
- parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Turn a pan on high heat. Add in your olive oil.
- When hot, add your cherry tomatoes (the goal is to give em a lil char)
- Add salt and pepper and garlic.
- To help the tomatoes burst, add some water, reduce heat to low and cover for a few minutes.
- Once they have burst, press on them to squeeze out the rest of the juice.
- Add in your red pepper flakes and Worcestershire sauce and simmer.
- Taste and add pasta water and cover, turn on low for a few minutes.
- Top with sliced basil and parmesan cheese.
